Joseph Knibb  No. 56

A highly important Charles II small walnut longcase clock. The case with turned walnut spiral columns flanking the sides of the rising hood which is surmounted by an original carved cresting. The long case door with oval lenticle, iron spoon and lock, iron strap hinges, all in original condition. The base standing on bun feet. The 9 1/2 inch square dial signed to the base, 'Joseph Knibb, Londini, Fecit' beneath the narrow silvered chapter ring. The dial also with fine original small winged cherub head spandrels and superb hands, the centre with narrow seconds ring, shutters to the winding arbours and calendar aperture. The movement with latched dial and six latched pillars, anchor escapement, bolt and shutter maintaining power and outside countwheel striking on a domed bell. Height includes cresting.
